BE Together Foundation work with children and young people by providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals. We inspire and support young people within the South Yorkshire region to become skilled and motivated employees, dynamic entrepreneurs, future business leaders and responsible citizens.
We work with children from the age of 7 upwards who are the hardest to reach. Some children who typify the work we do, have multiple complex issues, learning/behavioural difficulties, low attendance, low attainment, and involvement with the criminal justice system.
We currently have one part-time member of staff, who is supported by the trustees and 18 volunteers.
We commit ourselves to ensuring that the business community & education work together, in line with government reforms to meet the needs of a changing market and to provide the high quality work related learning opportunities young people require to prepare them for positive and meaningful career progressions.
Not only is the BE Together Foundation a registered charity but we're also now registered with JustGiving. You can use the links all across our website to access our JustGiving page.
TEKK Challenge & TEKK Challenge Tailored
One programme we deliver is the TEKK Challenge, this programme is designed to give 9 to 13-year-old pupils who are currently in Year 5-8, a hands-on, practical experience of forming a company to meet a technological challenge, and to help them identify and develop Enterprise and STEM skills and attitudes that will be invaluable to them both now and in their future working lives. Ambassadors from local businesses work side by side with pupils and teachers in the schools raising awareness of opportunities, sharing knowledge and building partnerships.
TEKK Challenge Tailored is the TEKK Challenge specially tailored and redesigned for children and young people with special educational needs.

How can you support TEKK Challenge & Tailored?
Bring your technology. Show students exactly what it means to work for your company and the skills you need from future employees. Give them first-hand information they will find hard to get elsewhere.
Run a workshop. Students relish the opportunity to try out practical experiments and challenges which are often squeezed out of the school timetable. It’s a powerful way to show them that science, engineering and technology often rely on creativity, teamwork and inspiration. It’s not all about labs and white coats.
Become a TEKK sponsor. If your business needs to recruit the best technical skills in the UK, be pro-active in supporting talent. By sponsoring students to attend TEKK Challenge events, you are directly affecting your future skills resource at the same time as finding a beneficial recipient for your CSR budget.

We all want to get a job when we become adults. Aside from the money - which gives us more independence and choices - it's also a sign of social inclusion and being seen as a full member of society. The TEKK Challenge has the ability not only to embed life and employment skills into children and young adults with learning disabilities, but also impact significantly on local business owner’s perceptions of employing people with learning disabilities.
The many barriers faced by people with a learning disability to access employment include:
Through experience of delivering the primary mainstream programme, we know that confidence, motivation and attention increases significantly for the children who participate and the mindset change of understanding how school activities relate to the world of work and life is substantial.
TEKK Challenge Special provides disabled and SEN pupils key skills and attitudes that will be invaluable to them both now and in their future lives, such as what makes an effective team, what skills and personalities they bring to a team, how to work together; communications skills, tolerance and respect for others; prioritising tasks, completing tasks to set timescales, evaluating their own work; presentation skills. Throughout the programme they are in effect designing and running their own “business”; designing uniforms, forming teams, identifying what skills and personalities make effective teams. They discover the importance of planning and preparation. They address a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) challenge and acquire an understanding of what enterprise is and how stem is applied in a business environment. Through the activities and participation, they make a start on their journey to becoming competent in a wide range of skills preparing them for the transition into the wider world outside of education.
